A solo expedition to scout for Mother Nature's bounty. I found the first young yellow chanterelles, which began to grow in clearings after heavy rains at the end of June 2026 in a spruce forest in a blueberry patch among birches and green moss. I checked promising myceliums of noble mushrooms, where every year I collect porcini mushrooms, aspen mushrooms, boletus, many yellow chanterelles, birch boletes, white milk mushrooms, russula, butter mushrooms, moss mushrooms, and other edible mushrooms for pickling. I found large patches of chanterelle mushrooms, which popped up in the sun-drenched forest. I left many to grow, and picked some larger ones for food. And then, lo and behold, I accidentally discovered the first white-legged aspen mushrooms of the 2026 season—I didn't expect this alone in the wild. No mushroom picker had yet set foot here in the new mushroom season, and the bears are masters. I also explored berry patches and found the first ripe blueberries—some were already ripe, very healthy and delicious. The aspen mushroom caps are so bright after the rain, visible from afar. The mushrooms are young and clean, and I left so many huge mushrooms for the squirrels in the forest—they'll come and feast on them and be delighted. The weather was changeable, plus 18 degrees Celsius, with patches of sun, untouched forest all around, pristine Karelian nature, and not a soul, silence. Only a lot of mosquitoes. Mushroom exploration was a success; I found many patches of chanterelles, let them grow. I'll definitely return to these remote Karelian places and pick lots of mushrooms, filling more than one basket. I got home and showed you how I preserve mushrooms for the winter using an electric dryer, and I'll show you how to dry them properly.
