Sow 2-3 seeds per spot at a depth of 1cm. After germination, thin out the seedlings to only two healthy ones when they have two true leaves. Continue watering, fertilizing, and hilling up the soil. They will be ready for harvest in about 2.5 months. Edamame Growing Season This spring vegetable is sown from late March onwards, and seedlings are planted from April to June, or in some areas, as early as July. Harvest occurs approximately 2.5 months after sowing, between mid-June and late September. Preparing for Edamame Growing Before starting cultivation, you should prepare your tools and soil, prepare the soil, and make ridges in the growing area. Sowing Edamame Seeds Edamame seeds can be sown from April through late summer. Sow 2-3 seeds 2cm deep, leaving 25-30cm between each plant. After sowing the seeds and watering them until germination, they will begin to germinate in about a week. Direct sowing is recommended during warmer weather, while direct sowing is recommended during cooler weather. Edamame Seed Sowing Time Sowing seeds in pots begins in early April, while direct sowing is mid-April onwards. Seeds sown up until early July will be suitable for a late fall harvest, but in cold regions where temperatures drop in late fall, sowing should be completed around June. Optimum Germination Temperature The optimum temperature for shoot germination is 20°C to 30°C. Days to Germination Seeds will germinate approximately 7 to 10 days after sowing. Thinning When the seeds have 2 to 3 true leaves, it's time to thin them out. Hold down the base of the plants you want to keep and manually remove any unwanted plants next to them. Leave only two healthy seedlings and pull out all the others. #PlantingEdamameSeedlings The best time to plant edamame seedlings is mid-April or later. Dig a planting hole and place the seedling. Add soil around the base of the plant, burying it up to the cotyledons. Lightly press down on the base with your hand to seal the roots and soil, then water thoroughly. Planting Edamame Growth is best when temperatures are between 20°C and 30°C. Planting is best from April onwards, when daytime temperatures exceed 20°C. Mulching Edamame seeds are susceptible to damage from pigeons and pests after sowing, so covering them with cheesecloth or nonwoven fabric until germination is effective. Mulching Mulching edamame seeds should always be done before the roots emerge. Loosen the surface of the soil around the plant, push it towards the base, and lightly press it down with the palm of your hand. Watering Water sparingly in the early stages of growth, and then water generously from the time flowering begins until harvest. The key is to water gently, focusing on the base of the plant, while being careful not to splash water or mud back up. Top-dressing The timing and amount of top-dressing are key. Since rhizobia attached to the roots provide nutrients to the plant, growing without base or top-dressing fertilizer until flowering prevents the plant from becoming shriveled. Harvesting After flowering, the fruit inside begins to swell rapidly and is ready for harvest after 40 to 50 days. You can either pull out the entire plant or pick the pods one by one, starting with the mature pods. Harvesting Time The optimum time for harvesting is when the fruit pops out when pressed. This occurs around 45 days after flowering, depending on the variety. When growing from seedlings, harvesting is approximately 80 to 90 days after planting, depending on the region. Pods mature from the top of the plant. Depending on the variety, the optimum h...
