This is a method used in the old days to revive batteries. Although it may seem drastic, the battery would "wake up" with a reverse charge until the absorption spiked, then proceed with the correct charge. It's not a classic, but it's not science fiction either. However, if the battery is sulfated, meaning it has a lead sulfate deposit on the electrodes that prevents the chemical reaction, it's possible to perform desulfation, which involves applying special current pulses with these gadgets I found on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4ejfY1c Here's a demonstration of the desulfator:    • RIGENERARE le batterie SOLFATATE che non a...   Since all new batteries have both positive and negative lead plates, they could be designed with one side or the other polarity; the polarity doesn't matter. until the first charge begins. Therefore, if you reverse the polarity to regenerate it, new active materials are formed, and the battery often becomes as good as new. Reversing the polarity converts a good portion of the lead oxide into metallic lead on the positive plates, and converts the spongy lead on the negative plates into lead oxide. This restores some solidity to the semi-crumbled positive plates, and the battery could probably last another year. If you then continue to cycle it through charge and discharge cycles, raising the voltage to 15V for two hours at a time, you'll see the capacity gradually increase. What could happen, however, is that the lead oxide now trapped in the separators could transform into metallic lead, short-circuiting the cells. Hopefully, there's little oxide around, and your batteries will last a long time. Anyway, what they last, they last; no matter what you do, we'll surely make them last much longer than they were supposed to!
