Break the Surface - Season 2025 | Geneva, Naxos & the Meaning of Style

Break the Surface is back, and this episode takes us through two stops of the 2025 Freestyle Pro Tour season: Geneva and Naxos. Geneva brought tow-in action turnt all the way up. Balz Müller and Steven Van Broeckhoven were back on tour, Yentel Caers was throwing triples, and Sam Esteve came out swinging to take an unexpected win with one of the standout moments of the event. But this time we also went way beyond the action. We sat down with Balz and Jack Müller to talk foilstyle, taking it all the way back to the beginnings of the discipline in 2017 and following how it’s evolved into what it is today. From there, the conversation shifts into one of the most interesting questions in freestyle windsurfing: style. What is style? Who inspires it? And what does “freestyle” actually mean to the riders pushing the sport forward? We sat down with the fleet for a discussion. Then it’s on to Naxos, where a huge rider fleet and one of the biggest tow-in lineups in recent memory kept the story going with more action, more upsets and more behind-the-scenes moments from life on tour. Less about one set of results, more about the people, progression and ideas shaping freestyle right now.
