Sibylle, the East German Vogue

Popularly known as the East German Vogue, Sibylle (1956-1995) was the refuge and vault of fantasies for many East Germans who dreamed of a life beyond the Iron Curtain. Sibylle was garnered paeans of praise throughout the years for its photographic artistry and for subtly reflecting the socio-economic and political conditions within the GDR. Sibylle was a one of a kind fashion magazine, creating a bond between East and West long before 1989, escaping communist censorship.
