I made the weirdest 18th century hat
I bought a bunch of cheap straw hats intending to take them apart to make a giant Edwardian hat but when the quality wasn't as great as I liked, I decided I needed a new direction. This video is an adventure in historical millinery experimentation, an attempt to bring a fashion plate to life. Inspired by hats and caps that appear in 18th-century fashion magazines like Galerie Des Modes et Costumes Francais, I made a huge, over-the-top hat with silk and flowers. With no extant originals to reference, will my finished hat look like the real deal? ** SUPPLIES ** I bought my hats on Ebay but I honestly wouldn't really recommend them. The shantung was leftovers (which I got for free) and I bought the organza locally but you can buy all kinds of silk from silkbaron.com Flowers from my local Joann Fabrics. ** IMAGE CREDITS ** Merry Widow Hats: https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/i... https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/i... https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/i... https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/i...
