The Renfe Cercanías network in Malaga is an interurban train service connecting Malaga with various municipalities in the province. As part of the Renfe Cercanías system, this network spans 70 km of railway tracks, encompassing two lines and 23 operational stations. The Malaga suburban core is economically significant in Spain, attracting a considerable number of passengers. The service on both the C-1 and C-2 lines is carried out using Civia units. The Malaga-Fuengirola line was originally owned by Ferrocarriles de Málaga a Algeciras y Cádiz. However, only this segment was constructed and operated by Ferrocarriles Suburbanos de Málaga until 1934. Later, it came under the administration of the State Railway Exploitation Agency and FEVE. This narrow-gauge railway line, operated with railcars or locomotives and railcar trailers, was closed on December 21, 1970. The current Cercanías Malaga-Fuengirola line was inaugurated in July 1975 by José Granados Cortés, then Director-Chief of Renfe in Malaga.
