According to the local tradition of Avani Betta (Karnataka), this is where Maharishi Valmiki welcomed her, where Lava and Kusha were born, and where they spent their childhood learning the Vedas, archery, music, and dharma. Local tradition also associates Avani with the composition of the Ramayana by Maharishi Valmiki.
