Holstenstraße is an S-Bahn station on the Hamburg connecting railway and was opened on May 1, 1893. It consists of an island platform with two tracks. To the west of the station, the line branches off towards Elbgaustraße and Pinneberg. Parallel to the S-Bahn tracks runs the main line, but these have not had a platform since 1967. The station building was almost completely destroyed in 1943 during Operation Gomorrah, as was the two-aisled station hall, of which only the steel frame remained. Its remains were demolished in 1980, and the platform was given the barrel roof that still stands today. From 2022 to 2025, the station was renovated. During this renovation, the platform and lighting were also renewed. The green spaces that had previously been located at the eastern end of the platform were removed. Since July 2025, there has been a problem with the Holstenstraße overpass structure located west of the station. The bridge carrying the track towards Altona is severely damaged and no longer usable. The bridge is currently being dismantled. A temporary bridge is planned for the second half of 2026 to allow S-Bahn service towards Altona to resume.
