Experimento de Química. Reacción de Precipitación de Hidróxido de Calcio
Chemistry experiment in which I perform a reaction of double displacement and precipitation. Mixing calcium chloride (CaCl2) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in aqueous medium they react to form sodium chloride (NaCl) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). Since calcium hydroxide is slightly soluble in water it precipitates and the solution turns white until the calcium hydroxide goes to the bottom. Dissolving calcium chloride in water is an exothermic process so it gives heat. Its temperature increases. The same happens when dissolving sodium hydroxide. This is the reaction: CaCl2 + 2NaOH → Ca(OH)2 + 2NaCl In order to separate the calcium hydroxide (CaOH)2) precipitate, also known as slaked lime, we will use a Büchner Funnel and a Büchner flask or Kitasato flask. We will perform a vacuum filtration or suction filtration. Once we have the wet calcium hydroxide we have to dry it, but since it reacts with the carbon dioxide of the atmosphere to form calcium carbonate, we will use a dessicator connected to vacuum so it accelerates de drying process and avoids the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2). It is possible to take advantage of this calcium hydroxide to make an experiement to detect carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide reacts with calcium hydroxide solution to produce a white precipitate of calcium carbonate. Limewater is a solution of calcium hydroxide. If carbon dioxide is bubbled through limewater, the limewater turns milky or cloudy white. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Büchner... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Büchner... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desiccator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limewater Patreon ► / cienciabit Subscribe ► https://www.youtube.com/subscription_...
