This is a very old traditional tune, which appeared many, many years ago somewhere at the border of the Caspian sea. A traditional Kozak song. It is about a person, who couldn't sleep. I don't know... really resonated with me. Basically what I did, I just took the tune and composed everything else. Sometimes I have a feeling that I need three hands and three feet in order to play that, haha. By the way, I still don't understand why the majority of pianists never use the sostenuto pedal (middle one). It really permits doing absolutely unique things on the instrument. Truly indispensable thing. Anyways... The funny thing is that the main difficulty turned out to be "the taste of sound". What I mean is we, classical musicians, are generally nurtured on Western music theory and western harmony, so when I started composing this music I figured out that it sounded very Western, so I had to explore quite new (personally) horizons to make it sound Eastern European; the way, it should sound.
