Doothi is messy, but she's not a liar
while i have critiques of doothi's video, i take issue with marc insco's response to it, as well as many of the negative responses it has received, for two main reasons: 1. what doothi said in the video completely lines up with what marc insco "revealed" in his response: that large commentary creators shared her video in a group chat and got upset about it, and that a featured creator told her to unlist the video. you can say doothi was being a bit hyperbolic, but that's it. the idea that she lied about what happened is unfounded, yet i saw so many people parrot that idea simply because marc insco insisted that were the case, not because he actually showed evidence of that. 2. many suggest doothi makes a fatal error of confusing lighthearted commentary videos with video essays, or humorous low effort videos with substantive high effort videos etc. but in my opinion, having watched the full video, her stance is clear. she has a problem with people making low effort lighthearted content about what are more serious and profound subjects ("capitalism" "overconsumption" "x industrial complex"). she critiques marc insco's video because she finds it to be low effort, repetitive, and trying to get away with it through 'breaking the fourth wall' (making self-effacing jokes about how he needs to pad the runtime), and that the subject of the video (overconsumption with regards to a clothing trend) should merit better effort. it's ok to dislike the video, but at this point, with how many hate videos and hate comments doothi is starting to receive, it's clear there is a lot of intentional misrepresentation going on and that has to be called out lastly, this should go without saying but i have to say it: i have no beef with any of these creators involved, while i don't like marc insco's response to doothi, i do recognize he has put out some good work and seems like a genuine dude. / elliotsang edited by Danae O. exec. prod. @earthtonellie chapters 00:00 the recap 02:29 did doothi lie? 12:39 the thumbnail problem 13:41 some of your critiques of doothi don't make sense 16:27 maybe we're all a bit salty 20:55 silly content can be critiqued! 23:23 the media literacy problem 25:34 we're all living on low effort 27:25 my scorching hot take 30:19 the buzzword problem 32:10 we're allergic to criticism
