Welcome to Quarterly Jazz — where every season has its own sound. This one starts on a narrow street in Menton, framed by a yellow wall on one side and a burnt-orange one on the other, with the sea sitting quietly in between. There's something about that gap between two buildings — like the town is politely stepping aside just long enough to let you see the water. We didn't plan the composition around that detail, but once we saw it, everything else followed. Musette accordion leads most of this session — a first for the channel. It carries the melody the way a good café conversation carries itself: warm, a little theatrical, never in a rush. Clarinet answers it in short phrases throughout, almost like a second voice joining in. Underneath, a manouche-style guitar keeps a light, swinging rhythm (a small nod to the Django Reinhardt tradition, without trying too hard to imitate it), and a violin drifts in occasionally to add a touch of something wistful. Upright bass and brushed drums hold it all together. If it sounds a little more "elegant" than our usual coastal sessions, that felt right for this one — the Riviera has always carried itself a bit differently.
