Bukut à Effoc, Au rythme d'un rite

On July 21st and 22nd, the village of Effoc resonated with the rhythm of the initiates' entry into the sacred forest for the traditional "Bukut." This ceremony had not been held in the village since 1986. Thirty-seven years later, Effoc revived this important Diola initiation rite. Thousands of inhabitants from Casamance, as well as from Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, converged on the village of Effoc, located 20 kilometers from Oussouye, to witness this traditional event celebrating Ajamat culture.
