Lesson three of the course focused on data sovereignty: how communities can produce their own information on sanitation, culture, or violence, ensuring ethics, protection of personal data, and the right to tell their own story without stereotypes. Samantha Reis (data_labe) shared the steps to achieve citizen-led data generation, gave examples of research conducted in this way, and showed why we need to produce our own indicators to fill the silences of the State. The training cycle “Data for Transformation: Advocacy and Social Use of Data” was conducted by the Data School for young women participating in the Hivos Future Feminists project, in partnership with Mandí and Decodifica.
