1001 Escapades : Le domaine de Bodélio, Malansac, Morbihan (56)
Bodélio Park is a vast historical estate of approximately 375 hectares, enclosed by an 11-km-long schist wall dating from the 15th century. Originally a hunting reserve for the lords of Rochefort, it later became a forest estate that was managed for several centuries. In the 19th century, it was transformed into an English-style landscaped park with waterfalls, ponds, and vistas, thanks to the efforts of the Simon family. In 1890, François Forest, an ancestor of the current owners, purchased and transformed Bodélio into a modern agricultural estate, one of the first examples of organized agribusiness. Today, a privately owned historical monument, it retains its 19th-century appearance and is only open to the public occasionally: Bank holidays and weekends in May Summer: from July 16 to August 16 Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays Entry for a self-guided walk is available between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, and at 4:45 pm. The park is closed during guided tours. Guided tours depart from the Porte Fer at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, lasting approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Closing time is 7:00 pm.
