Mesacast Pesquisa Clínica | Diversidade na Pesquisa Clínica e como participar | Com Dr. Jessé Lopes
In this episode of the Clinical Research Mesacast, oncologist Dr. Jessé Lopes and Juliana Mauri, executive manager of clinical research at the Instituto Vencer o Câncer (Cancer Victory Institute), address a central question for the advancement of science: who is being represented in clinical studies? Brazil has ethnic, genetic, cultural, and regional diversity like few other countries in the world. This potential is also scientific. But Black people, Indigenous people, the elderly, people from peripheral regions, and historically excluded groups are still underrepresented in research. And when science does not represent the population, its results do not reach those who need them most with the same effectiveness. 🔍 What you will find in this episode: • What diversity means in the context of clinical research and why it matters scientifically • Which populations are underrepresented in studies and what are the consequences of this • How clinical research can represent a real opportunity for access to innovative treatments • How a patient can volunteer to participate in a clinical study • The role of the Instituto Vencer o Câncer as a gateway to research Dr. Jessé Lopes is a clinical oncologist, researcher at the National Cancer Institute (INCA), founding member of the Diversity Committee of the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology (SBOC) and founding member of the Brazilian Group for Studies in Diversity and Inclusion in Oncology (GBEDIO). He is a winner of the GBECAM FIP Award for a project focused on representativeness in clinical research. This episode is a production of the Instituto Vencer o Câncer and the Rede Vencer o Câncer de Pesquisa Clínica, reinforcing the commitment to a more inclusive, equitable and representative science. 📌 Subscribe to the channel, turn on notifications, and share this content with those who need to know that clinical research is also for you. The Rede Vencer o Câncer Clinical Research program is supported by AstraZeneca, Fundação Brava, RD Saúde, and Roche. #DiversityInHealthcare #Inclusion
