Sanguinetti was twice-elected President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (1985-1990, 1995-2000), three-term Congressman (1962, 1967, 1997), Minister of Industry and Commerce (1969-1971), Minister of Education and Culture (1972), and Senator of the Republic (2005-2010).
