Laserdisc in 2026 - is this format worth preserving?

Welp, after almost 10 years of running this channel(!), it's finally time to talk about a format I get asked about all the time: LaserDisc. It's a format I've lived with since it was current, collecting LaserDisc releases in the 1990's and into the 2000's (eventually watching them on my HD CRT). But in this video, I'll try to get a new-to-me classic player from the 1980's working again, I'll talk about my experiences with the format and give a little bit of history, and I'll show you some picture quality comparisons between video formats as well as different LaserDisc players themselves. This really could have been three separate videos, so feel free to use the chapters to skip around to the sections you're interested in. As mentioned in the video, @ReelyInteresting has quite a few W-VHS videos for you to peruse - it's a gold mine of this otherwise obscure, borderline lost format.
