In today's Bible study, in Psalms 72 and 73, we reflect on justice, confession, repentance, and the fullness that only God's presence can produce in us. Psalm 72 presents the rule of a just king who defends the needy, helps the poor, and governs according to God's justice. “He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.” Psalm 72:2 This psalm points to a government completely different from human governments marked by pride, abuse, and personal interests. It reveals the desire for a King who governs with justice, mercy, and care for the vulnerable. In Psalm 73, we find Asaph facing a battle within his own heart. He confesses that he felt envy for the wicked when he observed the apparent prosperity of those who lived far from God: “As for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” Psalm 73:2–3 Asaph doesn't hide his condition. He acknowledges what was happening within him. This is an essential point of the spiritual life: there is no true repentance without sincere confession. While we hide, justify, or spiritualize what is wrong within us, we remain imprisoned. But when we acknowledge before God what has contaminated our hearts, we open space for correction, healing, and transformation. Asaph only began to understand what he was experiencing when he entered God's presence: “Until I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.” Psalm 73:17 The presence of God reorganized his vision. She didn't just change what Asaph saw on the outside. She changed what was happening inside him. It was in her presence that he perceived his bitterness, his foolishness, and his distance from the truth: “Thus my heart was embittered, and I felt pricks in my kidneys. Thus I was brutish, and knew nothing; I was like a beast before you.” Psalm 73:21–22 But the psalm doesn't end with guilt. Asaph acknowledges that, even in his confusion, God continued to uphold his hand: “Yet I am continually with you; you hold me by my right hand.” Psalm 73:23 And then he arrives at one of the most profound declarations in Scripture: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.” Psalm 73:25 This truth connects directly with Psalm 16:11: ACF Version: “You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” ARA Version: "You will show me the paths of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, at your right hand, pleasures forevermore." The expression "fullness of joy" helps us understand that God's presence offers not only momentary relief. It produces completeness. Fullness means that God occupies, fills, and satisfies the deepest spaces of the soul. When we are truly filled by His presence, that which is outside of Him loses power over us. We do not need to seek in people, recognition, sin, comparison, consumption, or approval what only God can deliver. In this study, we reflect on: • the just government presented in Psalm 72 • the envy confessed by Asaph • the importance of confession and repentance • the danger of comparing our lives with the apparent prosperity of others • the change of perspective that happens in the presence of God • the difference between momentary relief and true fullness • the presence of God as the only source of completeness for the soul Today's question is: What are you still trying to use to fill a space that belongs only to God?
