TODO BRASILEIRO SEGUE ESSA REGRA, MAS NINGUÉM EXPLICA!
Every country has an invisible manual. These are the rules that no one writes down, no one teaches in school, but that everyone follows, and that you only discover exist the moment you break them. When I arrived in Brazil, I broke practically all of them, one by one, with the innocence of a European who thought that good manners were universal. In this video, I decipher these secret social rules of Brazil, the good ones and the complicated ones, for you who live within them without ever having stopped to notice them. Because Brazilians have a very rich and subtle social code, full of gestures, words, and behaviors that mean much more than they seem. The 'would you like a coffee?' that needs to be offered three times. The 'you didn't need to bring anything' that actually means you did very well to bring something. The 'we'll talk later' that is sometimes just politeness. For a literal foreigner like me, this game of subtexts was a minefield, and I stepped on almost all the mines. But this video isn't a European mocking Brazilian customs. It's the opposite: it's a tribute to the social sophistication of a people who, without realizing it, have built an entire system of kindness, cordiality, and care for one another. Some of these rules are so beautiful that they enchanted me. Others, I confess, still confuse me. And I'm going to speak honestly about both, including the not-so-pretty rules, those that reveal contradictions that Brazilians themselves pretend not to see. If you're Brazilian, this video will make you laugh as you recognize things you do automatically without ever realizing it. And it will make you see your own culture through outside eyes, which is always revealing. Turn on notifications, comment on which secret rule you think I forgot to mention, and come with me to decipher Brazil. I'm Loránd Szilágyi, I speak five languages, I'm from Transylvania, and I live in Brazil learning these rules the hard way, one gaffe at a time. If you enjoy this foreigner's perspective on Brazil, you're in the right place.
