2 Days of INCREDIBLE Streamer Fly Fishing for BIG Trout!

The brown trout might be the most hated and simultaneously the most loved the trout in America. Just check social media and you’ll see posts and comments ranging from the passionate brown trout anglers that are upset that someone had the audacity to fish their favorite piece of water, to the anglers who question why brown trout aren’t killed on sight in the name of native species conservation. But regardless of your opinion it’s likely that at least for some amount of time in your life you were obsessed with brown trout. The bright orange colors, the predatory nature, and their size make them a formidable opponent for any angler. Which is why in this video Andrew and I spent 2 days chasing this non native species and experiencing the highs and lows that come with it. Welcome back to another video. So here’s the deal, it might appear as if we’re killing the game right now. But that was actually the second spot we had tried, moving who knows how much water. And you’ve been watching Andrew catch fish because I hadn’t hardly even seen one, only catching one rainbow trout in several hours of fishing. The weirdest thing about that being such a bad day is the conditions could not have been better. It was overcast, spitting rain, and much colder than it had been on the previous day when I landed a 2 footer. All I have to say is sometimes fishing just doesn’t make sense. But this is what drives us trout fisherman crazy is it not? No matter how well you think you have it figured out the trout will throw you a curve ball every now and again. It’s just part of fishing I guess. But , at least for me, when this happens it just makes me fish even harder. So after 10 hours of fishing with almost nothing to show for it we came back for one final day, feeling as if we needed some sort of revenge for how awful the fishing had been. To say we were upset would be an understatement. That was a solid 2 foot brown lost under some dubious circumstances, which you can clearly see in the video, and that fish is the exact reason we’re out there running miles and miles of river. We’ve gone back and forth on using barbless streamers over the past several years, just because we know that occasionally the damage from a barbed streamer isn’t great for the fish, but on the other hand if you lose the fish you’re after then what’s the point? It seems like an awful lot of work to put in only for a fish to easily be able to pop the streamer if it shoves its head into an undercut. I don’t know, I’d be interested in hearing what you guys think. I think we often lose sight of the fact that we are fishing, and that’s innately not a good thing for the fish. Fishing is just another form of hunting with the option to release before the kill, but the stress of the situation likely has an impact Regardless of how high and mighty we might pretend to be with Catch and release ethics. Either way at this point Andrew was DONE fishing. I mean he was ready to leave and go back home. I managed to convince him to continue against his better judgement, only being able to sway his opinion after I said it was my last day in Colorado. So that’s how I ended my annual trip out west to chase big browns which are arguably the most controversial trout in America. I promise if you read the comments on this video I’m sure there will be some interesting takes and probably a few hilarious comments. But that’s just what brown trout do to people. In fact if you made it this far you’re probably just as obsessed with brown trout as I am despite the fact that they’re native to Europe and Western Asia. Either way I just wanted to say thanks for watching and that I’ll catch you on the next episode of Hardman Fishing Adventures. #fishing #flyfishing #outdoors #troutfishing #trout #browntrout #nature #YouTube #sports
