In this episode of my Sri Lanka solo backpacking adventure, I continue my journey from the beautiful hill town of Ella to the cultural capital of Kandy. I start by visiting the famous Nine Arches Bridge, one of Sri Lanka's most iconic railway landmarks surrounded by lush tea plantations and misty mountains. During my stay in Ella, I stayed at a local hostel for just 2500 Sri Lankan Rupees, proving once again that Sri Lanka can be an amazing destination for budget travelers. The adventure continues as I take a scenic local bus ride through the winding mountain roads towards Kandy, enjoying breathtaking views of tea estates, forests, and rural villages along the way. One of the most memorable experiences of this journey was visiting an elephant orphanage, where I participated in volunteering activities and learned more about the care and conservation of rescued elephants. Travel is not only about places but also about people. During this trip, I met two friendly German travelers at my hostel in Kandy, shared travel stories with a 58-year-old Dutch solo female traveler, and had fascinating conversations with two Chinese professors exploring Sri Lanka. These unexpected encounters are what make solo travel truly special and unforgettable. Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage city, is famous for its rich cultural heritage, beautiful lake, traditional dance performances, and its role as the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. The journey from Ella to Kandy is often considered one of the most scenic routes in the country, attracting backpackers and adventurers from all over the world.
