OLUKUMI | Sola Akingbola & The Eegun Rhapsodies | Filmed Live in Abbey Road Studio 2
Sola Akingbola & The Eegun Rhapsodies performing OLUKUMI live in the iconic Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios. The title OLUKUMI is a Yoruba greeting meaning "my friend, my kinsman", and was used as a recognition between Yoruba people during the transatlantic slave trade who transformed adversity into musical legacy. The track is a call across continents connecting the people of Oyo, Bahia, Cuba, Brazil, and the Black American experience through rhythm, history and resilience. It pays tribute to the Yoruba and Cuban pioneers who carried these traditions forward across the diaspora and laid the foundations of Latin jazz and revolutionised Black American music. The song speaks to that shared spirit—born from adversity, shaped by movement, held together by the drum.
