Our route was based on the little-known tourist spots northeast of Moscow, bypassing such "tourist stars" of this destination as Vladimir, Suzdal, Bogolyubovo and the Church on the Nerl, Rostov the Great, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Sergiev Posad, Abramtsevo, and Muranovo – about which I already have films! * * Aleksandrov is a city in the Vladimir region and part of Russia's Golden Ring. Its history is closely linked to the Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda, the suburban residence of the Moscow princes. In 1513, Vasily III built a palace here, and under Ivan the Terrible, the sloboda effectively became the capital of the state (1564–1581): from here, the tsar governed the country and established the oprichnina. The main attractions are the Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda Museum-Reserve, with 16th-century monuments: the Trinity Cathedral (1513) with copper doors from Tver and Novgorod, the tent-roofed Church of the Intercession (the first stone tent-roofed church in Russia), and the Crucifixion Bell Tower, from which, according to legend, the "Russian Icarus" leaped. Other attractions worth visiting in the city include the Assumption Monastery, the Tsvetaeva Museum (the sisters lived here from 1915 to 1917), the art museum in the merchant Pervushin's mansion, and the man-made stone museum.
