Fernando Sor | Three pieces from Op. 44 | Patrik Kleemola plays Lacote (1839)

Here are three of my favourite pieces from Fernando Sor's 24 Petites Pièces Progressives, Op. 44 which were considered part of his Méthode pour la guitare (1830), although published separately. The difficult task for any composer is to write accessible works for students, which are easy enough but still musically rewarding. I think here Sor succeeds! The first one (No. 22) is a sad and subtle study in three independent voices, that hardly could have been written at the time by anyone else than Sor himself. The second one (No. 23) has a wonderful dancing groove, although the character to me has quite seriously sarcastic tone in it. The last one (No. 21) is a beautifully eloquent musical speech reflecting inner peace.
