In early September, I ordered a stove directly from Home Depot in the US and received it via ocean shipping using a shipping agent. The stove is a US Stove 1269E, similar in appearance to the one we used in our main house. It's priced in the US around $300, but including domestic shipping, ocean freight, customs duties, and other fees, it cost about 1.1 million won. I've seen reviews of delivery cases where it arrived broken, but thankfully, the packaging was tattered, but it was still intact. I also purchased the chimney and accessories from Kyungan Engineering. The total cost, including the flue, dual flue, backdraft arrestor, storm collar, and interior trim, was about 400,000 won. The damper, also from US Stove, was purchased on Amazon via 11th Street. It cost about 25,000 won, including shipping. It arrived in just three days, which was impressive. The stove arrived well packaged, but required some simple assembly. The chimney was removed straight. If this is the case, insert it with the male end facing downward. A backdraft arrestor and storm collar were installed at the very top, and the storm collar was sealed with heat-resistant silicone. The chimney was constructed using a combination of single and double pipes. Single pipes can dissipate the heat passing through the chimney to the interior, increasing efficiency. Double pipes are made by overlapping two single pipes with insulation inserted between them for enhanced insulation. This has several advantages. First, they protect the walls and roof from excessive external temperatures. Second, they prevent the chimney from cooling too quickly, reducing the production of wood vinegar. Second, double pipes reduce the contraction and expansion of the chimney, ultimately increasing the durability of both the chimney and the house. Therefore, I recommend using a double-pipe. When determining the chimney location and length, it's helpful to refer to the 3-2-10 rule. Roughly speaking, in meters, the chimney should be installed at least 1 meter above the roof and at least 3 meters straight from the rooftop. If this isn't possible, it's recommended to install it at least 60 cm above the rooftop. This is due to the vortex generated by the wind across the roof. This vortex can interfere with smoke exhaust and cause backflow. However, it's important to consider Korea's predominantly northwesterly winter winds. This is essential if the chimney is located south of the roof, but it's only recommended if it's located north of the roof. Smoke will rise when the stove is first lit.
