Монастырь Петра

Petra Monastery (Greek: Moni Petra) is an Orthodox monastery of the Thessalian and Phanariothessalian Metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church. It is located on the southern spurs of the Pindus mountain range (at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level), 27 kilometers from the town of Karditsa and four kilometers from Lake Plastira in central Greece. Founded in the mid-16th century, it is a significant monument of post-Byzantine architecture. The monastery stands on the road leading from Kataphyion to the village of Agios Athanasios near Lamberon. The name of the monastery (literally Greek: Monνή Πέτρας - "monastery of the rock") is connected with the fact that the monastery is located on the top of a high and wide rock (Greek: πέτρα - "petra"), which rises above a mountain gorge, and is not connected with the name Peter.
