[Junction Scene] Past Image, Visited January 2008 Yamamoto Station is an intermediate station on the JR Kyushu Karatsu Line and Chikuhi Line, and is currently a junction station for the Karatsu Line towards Kubota and the Chikuhi Line towards Imari. Previously, there was a Chikuhi Line line between Nijinomatsubara and Yamamoto, with a junction for the Karatsu Line towards Nishi-Karatsu and the Chikuhi Line towards Hakata, as well as a junction for the Karatsu Line's Kishidake branch line. However, the Kishidake branch line was abolished on August 20, 1971, and the section of the Chikuhi Line between Nijinomatsubara and Yamamoto was abolished on March 22, 1983, resulting in the current network. At the current Yamamoto junction, after branching within the Yamamoto Station premises, the Karatsu Line and Chikuhi Line run parallel for approximately 3.9 km towards Kubota and Imari. Along this parallel section, Honmutabe Station is located only on the Karatsu Line tracks. After the two lines separate, the Chikuhi Line crosses over the Karatsu Line. Yamamoto Station has two platforms and three tracks. Generally, track 1 is used for southbound Karatsu Line trains towards Nishi-Karatsu, track 2 for northbound Karatsu Line trains towards Kubota and southbound Chikuhi Line trains towards Imari, and track 3 for northbound Chikuhi Line trains towards Karatsu. Only track 2 allows access to both the Karatsu and Chikuhi Lines, and there is a junction on the Kubota/Imari side of track 2.
