𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡: Truck Topples Lamppost, Performer Hospitalized

On Friday morning, June 26, 2026, Santa Monica City electricians and Santa Monica Beach Maintenance crews responded to Ocean Front Walk after a decorative lamppost was knocked down by a delivery box truck near the Santa Monica Pier. Based on information obtained at the scene, the delivery box truck was backing up when the driver apparently did not see the decorative lamppost and struck it, causing the pole to snap off at its base. According to sources at the scene, the falling lamppost may have struck a street performer. The individual was transported to a local hospital by a Santa Monica Fire Department ambulance before Santa Monica Closeup arrived. The person's condition was not immediately known. Beach Maintenance crews used a tractor to remove the damaged lamppost from Ocean Front Walk. Santa Monica City electricians disconnected the electrical service and secured the exposed electrical box to make the area safe while repairs are arranged. The incident temporarily restricted pedestrian access around the work area as city crews completed the cleanup and secured the damaged utility infrastructure.
