Sarada Devi (December 22, 1853 – July 20, 1920) was the wife and companion of the prominent 19th-century Bengali Hindu religious leader Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Devotees call her Sri Srima. Her role in the development and spread of the Ramakrishna movement is undeniable. Sarada Devi was born in the village of Jayarambati. Her maiden name was Saradamani Mukherjee. She was married to Sri Ramakrishna at the age of five. However, she did not get the opportunity to meet her husband until she reached the end of her adolescence. According to her biographers, they both practiced unbroken celibacy to establish the ideals of domestic and monastic life. After Sri Ramakrishna's death, Sarada Devi spent the rest of her life in Jayarambati and Udhan Bhavan in Kolkata. Her entire life was dedicated to the service and sacrifice of her husband, brother and brother-in-law and her spiritual children. The disciples of Sri Ramakrishna used to place her in the seat of their mother. After the death of their Guru, they would come to him in the hope of getting advice and encouragement.
