From 1 kilometers to 20 kilometers, there has been many planned monorail projects in every length and purpose. One system has been proposed on 9 occasions, but only 2 have been built, only to be forgotten and scrapped. In the early 2010s, the Department of Science and Technology started the Automated Guideway Transit system, manufacturing train cars locally and aiming to serve short-distance yet efficient travel. Two projects were built but never completed. One in the UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City and the other in Bicutan, Taguig City. However, both lines were never opened to the public, ended up being demolished or abandoned. Other monorail proposals in the country were forgotten and shelved, leaving only 1 project still being considered to turn into fruition, with the country years away from ever having a monorail.
