How to Make a Scrappy Trip Around the World Quilt, Easy Strip Piecing, Sew Your Stash, FREE Tutorial

Hello and Welcome to the Description Box for making a Trip Around the World Quilt! I am not a pattern writer but I will do my best in providing as much detail as I can about how I created this Quilt! 😊 This Quilt was made for my youngest daughter and her King size bed. The Island Batik fabrics I used were Whimsical Wings, Blossoms & Blooms, Winter's Foliage, Tranquil and Tonga Treats. There were 40 strips per pack and I used 5 packs. Of the 200 strips, I did not use 32. So my grand total of 2 1/2" strips was 168 for this King size. I used eight (8) strips per strip set and I was able to get two (2) blocks per strip set. My blocks measured approximately 16 1/2" x 16 1/2". Some were a bit larger but I did not trim them down. I made 42 blocks to lay my quilt 6 across by 7 down. I sewed 36 of these blocks into 9 different four-patch blocks, with 6 blocks remaining for the seventh row. I backed her Quilt with a medium/dark gray cotton with a mandala print. I freehand longarm quilted it with a pale blue thread from Superior Threads using what I like to call "Ripples". It worked great for being able to secure all of these little squares. I bound her Quilt with a Kona Navy double fold binding. The final size is approximately 99" x 116". I gave the Quilt her first wash with about 10 Color Catcher sheets just to make sure the dyes from the Batik fabrics were captured. They worked great and the quilt is good and crinkled as well as floppy, just perfect for snuggling under. 😍 A personal shout out to Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville for the genius strip tube technique!!
