WW2 Nazi Mauser P.38 BYF 44 with Amazing Capture Story! | Walk-in Wednesday
In this episode, Tom tells us his very favorite war story. As a plus, it comes with an amazing WW2 relic that Tom has kept in his collection for years! This is the story of the experience of a war hero named Kenneth (or Kenny) Price. Kenny was from Kansas and enlisted in the US army in 1942. His journey started when he landed in Normandy, France 12 days after D-day. He was a machine gun operator, manning a Browning 1919 machine gun. He fought his way across France and Germany experiencing the many hardships of enemy fire, bad weather, and war itself. Many good men were lost. He was first injured in the leg when he was fighting in the Hurtgen Forest. He would be injured two more times before the end of the war, each time re-entering the front lines. Under the leadership of General Patton, he was part of the effort to relieve the 101st Airborne division in the Battle of the Bulge (outside of Bastogne). He then fought his way through the Ardennes to the Rhine River. While defending the river in a tower, a bomb went off, killing two of his men. He received phosphorous burns to his neck and arms. He then pushed his way to the Elbe river, where they waited for the Russians to take Berlin. When fighting in Berlin, he encountered an extremely resilient SS unit. It was at that time that he received the P.38 in this video and in Tom's collection. After that, he returned home, got married, and lived out the rest of his life in his home state of Kansas. He received many awards and accolades, including the purple heart, bronze and silver stars, and many others. What an amazing story!
