ROSARIO ROCK N ROLL, FAUSTO YRURE / EL AGUANTADERO

INTERVIEW WITH THE FRIEND AND DEFENDER OF "PÁJARO" AND GUILLE CANTERO, OF LOS MONOS He is the defense attorney for Ariel Máximo "Guille" Cantero, of "Los Monos," sentenced to 22 years in prison by the courts for organizing drive-by shootings against judges and prosecutors who tried him. The lawyer knows the Cantero family, and their professional relationship began with Claudio "Pájaro" Cantero, murdered in Rosario by members of a rival gang: "He was a generous, quiet, but affectionate kid; a man of his word, a great guy and friend. I don't know anything about those who accuse them of being drug traffickers. I read the case file and base my arguments on that," says Yrure. Fausto Yrure is a lawyer who doesn't usually appear in the media or in movies. Besides his low profile, he speaks slowly, is thoughtful, and his sensitivity goes against the stereotypical criminal lawyer. In law, he's a technical expert and suffers when injustice ends up costing some of his clients their job. He's been involved in many cases and even came close to becoming a judge, achieving the highest score, but his application didn't move forward. "They did me a favor," says the lawyer, who is also a musician and has a band. He could be famous and in the media spotlight, but he doesn't like being labeled as the lawyer for Los Monos, "the devil's advocate," or the drug traffickers' lawyer. In this interview, he reveals whether there's a formula or a secret to defending a drug gang and what the legal strategies are for defending those accused of contract killings. He also discusses dealing with the media frenzy and the political and judicial pressure against his clients. And the big question: what is the reality of drug-related violence in Rosario? Besides his legal work, he's the author of the song "Nenito Acción" (Little Action Kid), which tells the tragic story of a child hitman who emerged from poverty, social inequality, and a system that, instead of containing him, expels him into violence. His singer-songwriter style involves writing socially conscious lyrics based on his experiences as a lawyer, stories that deserve to be told and sung.
