Growing Cherries with the Mastermans — In the Alaska Garden with Heidi Rader

In this video, Steve and Sarah Masterman discuss growing cherries with Heidi Rader, professor of Extension at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Steve and Sarah have trialed more than 300 varieties of fruit in a three-acre orchard — Alaska Fruit Trees Orchard — just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska, over the past decades. In addition to testing varieties and rootstocks, they have developed techniques to optimize fruit production and care for trees during a short growing season and winter in a northern climate. They grow rootstock from seed as well as graft and sell fruit trees on hardy rootstock that will grow and produce in cold climates with short growing seasons.
