How the US Navy Feeds 5,000 People in the Middle of the OCEAN

How the US Navy Feeds 5,000 People in the Middle of the OCEAN Three fifteen in the morning. A hundred and thirty-five degrees. A twenty-two-year-old sailor is making scrambled eggs for a thousand people — six decks below the flight deck of the most expensive warship ever built. Every single day, the USS Gerald R. Ford burns through 17,000 meals, 1,600 pounds of meat, and 20,000 cups of coffee. The daily grocery bill runs between $45,000 and $65,000. And there are no grocery stores in the middle of the ocean. In this video, we go inside the food system that keeps 5,000 sailors fed aboard a $13 billion aircraft carrier — from the revolutionary galley design that changed how the Navy feeds its crews, to the dangerous underway replenishment operations that transfer hundreds of thousands of pounds of supplies between moving ships at sea, to the Culinary Specialists who work 16-hour shifts in extreme heat to make sure the most powerful warship on earth never shuts down from the inside. #navy #usnavy #aircraftcarriers #navaloperations #militarydocumentary
