Taylor Deupree vs. Benson Tall Bird Plus

We invited our longtime friend Taylor Deupree -- renowned ambient artist, mixing and mastering engineer, and founder of the 12k record label -- to explore the new Benson Tall Bird Plus. We’ve long admired his beautiful, minimalist approach to sound and music. We have been fortunate enough to have him mix and master many Datachoir projects. Taylor has also collaborated with and supported our mutual friend Marcus Fischer for many years, and his extensive list of collaborations includes artists like Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian, Stephan Mathieu, and more. A longtime fan of the original Benson Studio Tall Bird, Taylor was a natural choice to help us demo this new version -- now updated with harmonic and optical tremolo. We were thrilled when he agreed to contribute. It was such an inspiring privilege to visit and capture Taylor in his studio on this rainy day in May. His use of reverb and restraint lends itself to the deconstruction of soundscapes, and his interpretation of the Tall Bird Plus reveals unexpected textures and tonal spaces.
