¿Te ha echado de casa la gentrificación?

Rents in Latin America are skyrocketing. Between 2022 and 2023, rent in Buenos Aires rose by 126%, in Mexico City by 12%, and in São Paulo by 11%. And so it goes in other cities. Argentina's staggering figure is mainly due to inflation, but generally, in the rest of the region, gentrification is to blame. It all starts when your neighborhood begins to fill up with luxury buildings, tourist apartments, and expensive businesses. You can probably imagine a coffee chain popping up somewhere in your city. And one day your landlord tells you they're going to raise the rent again, until you can no longer afford it. This modernization and infrastructure improvement that makes neighborhoods trendy, attracts higher-income residents, and displaces longtime neighbors who can't afford those rents is called gentrification. #HowDWAffectsYou Video Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 01:37 Rising Rents 06:04 Displacement of Traditional Residents 10:43 Hosting Platforms 14:10 Digital Nomads 20:55 Real Estate Speculation 23:08 Solutions 25:05 Conclusion
