ADRIANA ISTRATE - Plugușorul (Buhaiul) din Boiștea (Târgu Neamț, județul Neamț, România)

The video clip contains only the sequences performed by Miss Adriana Istrate, excerpts from the "Plugușor" (traditional New Year Romanian Carol) presented by the folk group from Boiștea, coordinated by the parish priest Gheorghe Trofin on the stage of the 11th edition of the "New Year's Customs and Traditions Festival" in Târgu Neamț on January 2, 2024 (    • PLUGUȘORUL DIN BOIȘTEA - Festivalul Tradiț...   ). Adriana Istrate's performance, over several years and in various places on the occasion of traditional New Year's celebrations, is absolutely remarkable, electrifying, bringing a special value to this "Plugușor" which already stands out for its special tonality and rhythm (possibly a heritage of the village), somehow unique and much different from the "usual" songs. Probably for this reason, and considering the device that imitates the bull's roar, this folk group from Boiștea prefers to use the name ”BUHAI” (Bull) instead of ”Plugușor”. Boistea is a beautiful village located near the city of Târgu Neamt (9 km southeast), but administratively belonging to the Petricani commune. Among other things, Boistea is also the heir to the memory of a nunnery, but also the keeper of a unique Easter tradition consisting of the "Raising of Crowns" (    • Tradiție unică de Paște - Înălțarea coroan...   ). The group of carolers is composed of girls and boys equipped with drums that they beat rhythmically with their free hand and move at the command of the two reciters, Adriana Istrate and Irimia Bogdan. The young people are dressed in traditional costumes and are accompanied by a wooden whistle, but also by the ”buhai” (bull).
