This European City Break Has No Crowds..And Is Ridiculously Cheap To Get To

Is this Europe’s best-kept travel secret? While everyone else is crowding into Prague, Budapest, or Krakow, I found flights to Slovakia's second city for just £28 return. Cheap European city breaks do still exist—you just have to look where others aren't. Welcome to Košice, Slovakia. This isn't the capital city of Bratislava; it's a completely overlooked, budget-friendly alternative that most people wouldn't even think of for a weekend away. As famous European destinations become more crowded and expensive, I wanted to find out if the smarter travel choices are the ones we tend to ignore. Join me as I explore the historic streets of Košice to see what a genuinely affordable, crowd-free alternative city break looks like. Is it worth skipping the famous tourist traps for something a bit different? Let's find out. What We Explored In Košice: St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral: Standing right in the heart of the city, this is the largest church in Slovakia and one of Europe's easternmost Gothic masterpieces. Jakab’s Palace: A stunning, fairy-tale Neo-Gothic palace built partly from stones discarded during the cathedral's restoration. The Singing Fountain: The perfect spot to take a break on Hlavná Street, watching the water jets dance in perfect synchronization with music. Mikluš Prison: A fascinating but eerie look into medieval justice and local history housed inside a 17th-century former prison and torture chamber. Slovak Technical Museum: An incredible hidden gem filled with unique industrial history, vintage technology, and interactive exhibits. 00:00 - This Cost £28! 00:36 - Why On Earth Am I Here? 01:14 - Hlavna Ulica, The Singing Fountain & St Elizabeths Cathedral 03:54 - Back To The Hotel.
