Ys II Complete Speedrun (Single Segment with major skips) - 37:37
This is an "any%" speedrun of Ys II Complete, done with "New Game +" settings in order to abuse certain glitches, activated by dying in Time Attack mode and quick-loading a file immediately after. The individual effects are too numerous to list here, but basically, it allows you to skip text when talking to characters. For the characters that are spoken to in a "special" manner (instead of running straight into their sprites - Banoa, Jade, Elder Cornell, the Priests, etc.), their triggers don't load unless you start TA mode on said screen; in other words, TA needs to be de-activated temporarily, the file loaded up under normal circumstances, and then I re-activate TA mode to get those triggers working, without the text boxes (if it's beneficial, anyway). That principle also applies to other special events, such as obtaining the Black Pearl in the Moat of Burnedbless, draining the canal area, etc.). The other major effect of glitched TA is that, when you enter a boss room in such a state, you instantly acquire 1 of all inventory and equipment items (why it's set up this way with Ys II, but not Ys I, I don't know). This has numerous effects on the game, but activating it before Gorto lets you enter the Shrine results in an unwinnable game (if you activate the glitch before this point, he never lets you in - the game probably thinks he already has, likely due to having a late-game item prematurely, or something of the sort). So, I chose to activate it after he unlocks the door, then I head to the closest boss room (Tyalmath's, as Druegar's would still be locked). Getting all items at this point allows me to skip a huge chunk of Solomon Shrine, but the canal still needs to be drained so I can reach Dalles, which unfortunately means needing to learn the password to the western sector. With the glitch, not only are you then auto-equipped with the preset TA equipment, entering an undefeated boss' room with the timer running results in an inescapable battle (unless you warp right as you enter, as seen during Dalles). And while the game does level you to the preset TA level for said boss, it's in stats only, not actual EXP. So, after leveling for Dalles, if I re-entered Druegar's room with the timer running, it would de-level me some (not quite to my actual level, as the TA level is 39, which is still higher than my actual 32 or so). Plus, beating a boss with the timer running just sends you off to the next one, so I had to auto-level for Dalles, then warp out of there (though you can see I messed up a little when re-entering Druegar's room), and fight him normally. I don't know how much time can be saved (I suspect sub-37 is possible, maybe), but aside from the above mishap with de-leveling briefly in Druegar's room, the other notable error was the grinding in the Moat of Burnedbless, which can be improved some (mostly with the Tops, but also figuring out a way to hit level 26 better, perhaps with less Tops, and instead killing the Jyns along the way to Gelaldy's room). Otherwise, I'm pretty confident with when to use the glitch (generally, it has to save ~10 seconds per use vs. normally activating stuff, as it often needs 5 to activate, plus another 5 when it's de-activated), but certain things do need further testing in that regard. For more info on the glitched TA bug itself, I made this video a while back, but there are still some things not shown: / 356085181
