This is Yuna. Today I went to ‘Tongilchon’, a village within the Civilian Control Line. Since I used to visit Paju, I saw many restaurants that served ‘Jangdan Bean Tofu’, so I always wondered what Jangdan Bean was. The Jangdan Bean Village that I visited to meet Jangdan Bean was a village that was created in 1972 under the direction of former President Park Chung-hee to counter North Korea’s ‘propaganda village’, and is commonly called ‘Tongilchon Village’. This place is located within the Military Demarcation Line, so if you want to visit the village, you have to contact them in advance and be accompanied by a resident. It was sad and regrettable to see the bomb disposal team coming and going because there are still many landmines. The food made with Jangdan Beans grown in this natural environment of the civilian control zone was so delicious that I couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration as soon as I ate it.
