Abdul Ghaffar Aziz (Urdu: عبدالغفار عزیز‎; Abdul Ghaffar Aziz, 1962 - 5 October 2020) was a Pakistani politician, Islamic scholar and deputy emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan from April 2019 to 5 October 2020 until his death. He was also Director of Foreign Affairs of JI for over two decades. Aziz was appointed Deputy Emir of JI in April 2019 alongside Liaqat Baloch, Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Rashid Naseem, Asadullah Bhutto, Farid Ahmad Paracha, Mian Muhammad Aslam and Merajul Huda Siddiqui. Aziz died on 5 October 2021 due to cancer. According to JI spokesman Qaisar Sharif, Abdul Ghaffar Aziz had been suffering from cancer for a year. His funeral prayer was led by his brother Habib-ur-Rahman in Mansoorah, Lahore. JI Emir Sirajul Haq, General secretary Ameer ul Azeem and thousands of others participated in his funeral. Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allāh we belong, and to Him we will return. The senior Muslim scholar, who was the vice-amīr and head of the foreign affairs department of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, was one of the most prominent Islamic figures and political leaders in Pakistan. The information secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan broke the news on Twitter that Aziz had been battling cancer for the past year and passed to meet his Lord (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) at the age of 58 on Monday in Lahore. Aziz leaves behind a widow, two sons, and two daughters. Death is a certainty of life. Indeed, life itself is a test; man shall die and be questioned. It is in this sense that Allāh informs humans by way of counsel and encouragement that it is only the believers who are successful, avoid the Fire, and secure admittance into Paradise. When a believer dies, it is a time of great tragedy and loss for the community. The efforts of the Sheikh are well-known and we trust that they will be his legacy and among his many good deeds that will stand for him after his death in shā Allāh.
