O My Son… Do Not Let This World Deceive You | Surah Luqman
In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. This is a recitation of Surah Luqman, the 31st chapter of the Qur’an. A Surah filled with wisdom, humility, gratitude, and guidance for the soul. At the heart of this chapter is a father speaking to his son. Not with arrogance. Not with harshness. But with love, clarity, and deep concern. “O my son…” Those words carry something powerful. They are not just words from a father to a child. They are words that speak to all of us. Because in many ways, we are all still children in need of guidance. We move through this world distracted by noise, status, fear, desire, pride, and the illusion that this life is all there is. But Surah Luqman gently pulls us back. It reminds us of the foundation of all wisdom: Do not associate partners with God. Before anything else, the heart must know where it belongs. Because when the heart forgets God, it becomes easily deceived by the world. It starts chasing things that cannot satisfy it. It starts fearing things that cannot truly harm it. It starts loving things that will eventually disappear. Luqman’s advice is simple, but it is not shallow. He teaches his son to be grateful. To honor his parents. To remember that even the smallest deed is known by God. To establish prayer. To command what is right. To be patient through hardship. To avoid arrogance. To walk with humility. And to lower his voice. These are not just religious instructions. They are a way of becoming human in the truest sense. A way of cleaning the heart. A way of walking through this temporary world without being owned by it. One of the most powerful reminders in this Surah is that even if something is as small as a mustard seed, hidden inside a rock, or anywhere in the heavens or the earth, God will bring it forth. Nothing is lost. Nothing is forgotten. Nothing is hidden from the One who created all things. That should humble us. But it should also comfort us. Because the good you did quietly… God knows. The pain you carried silently… God knows. The patience you showed when no one saw it… God knows. The prayers you whispered when you had no words left… God knows. This Surah reminds us that true wisdom is not about sounding wise. It is not about appearing spiritual. It is not about winning arguments or being seen as righteous. True wisdom begins when the heart becomes sincere before God. When a person learns to be grateful. When they stop walking with pride. When they remember that this world is not the final home. This recitation is meant to be listened to slowly. Let the words settle. Let the reminders reach the parts of you that have been tired, distracted, or distant. Because sometimes guidance does not arrive loudly. Sometimes it comes like a father’s advice. Simple. Direct. Merciful. And true. May this recitation bring peace to your heart, clarity to your mind, and light to your path. May we be among those who hear wisdom and live by it. And may God protect us from being deceived by this world. Echoes of Wisdom
