Welsh singer Duffy gets the third degree

(13 Jan 2011) SHOWS London, November 17th 2010 10 mins approx 1. Sit down interview with Duffy including the following sound bites: "Bespoke I think, if I had to describe my style I'd say bespoke. I struggle to find things that fit. When I meet people they think I'm going to be 6ft tall but actually I'm 5ft 2 (inches) and I have incredibly small feet. Admittedly because I can't shoes that fit. So I always have to make things work for me. I end up cutting jeans in half, I end up having to go and find very small old lady clothes from the 1950's that seem to fit so I like to be creative because I live in my own head so much that if I don't have things to live three dimensionally, gosh I think I would be quite stuck." "Yeah, I need to live outside myself because I live too much inside myself sometimes." "My mum was a big inspiration for me fashion wise. If I think about her when I was a little girl she always had pearl earrings on, actually this outfit, I'm not going to lie to you, I just left my pearl earrings at home. But my mom always wore cashmere and she used to lie in the bath so her jeans would be skinny before the time that jeans were worn as skinny jeans, if you like. Always wearing heels. She'd clean the house in heels, listen to Genesis on MTV. So I have really great memories of... She was very... I was going to say sexual, but there was something sexual about her in a non contrived way. She was sexy, put it that way." "I am admittedly a bottle blonde, in recent months that's the only bottle that I've hit. I haven't had the enjoyment of going out and getting and drunk and so the only thing that I get to do that is any sort of chemical involves my hair dye. So yes, eyebrows are a give away. But I think with black hair I don't... I feel like a blonde. I just feel like a blonde. What that says about me I just don't know." "No, it's all kind of 5 minutes stuff. It's not a big ordeal. That being said I have long hair because my mom, this sexy goddess that she was, decided because she had short hair in the '80's, a little bit like Marilyn but red, really kind of curly. She decided that it would be really cool to cut myself and my sisters hair at the age of 6 and we were just so upset. We had this sort of bowl haircut. So for me having hair makes me feel good, like I have arrived somewhere. I'm no longer the little kid at school with braces and short hair. Thanks mum (winks at camera)." "The Grammys was a wild time, there's a little inside thing in the music industry that awards come around February whether it be in France, whether it be in Germany, whether it be in America and the U.K., it was generally a whirlwind at that time and I just seem to remember just picking things up, it was like from one post to the other. But I have to admit that there is a huge esteem about the Grammys. I don't know if, as a young girl from Wales, I really knew what the Grammys were. I've come to understand the royalty attached to that in recent years. So I enjoyed it, it was great, I feel very proud now I look back. But I have to admit the Brit Awards for me really felt like I had achieved something, I'd come to a place that I'd longed to arrive at." "The Grammys felt like Hollywood and I think the Brit Awards felt like as though I had been excepted at home and for the first time realized that I was live in my family's living rooms. I don't know whether I had done that many live TVs, there aren't that many live Tvs. So there I was while they were opening bottles of champagne and screaming on the television at home, that was cool."
