Constants. The constants that keep our universe running, that keep the gears of the machine turning as they do. These constants, which we now know to be 27, are constants, like the weight of an electron. The strength of gravity. The electromagnetic, strong, and nuclear forces. These are constants. They are constant. They are unchanging. Like the speed of light. When you adjust these constants one by one to the right level, when you turn the volume up not too low or too high, for example, when you leave it just right, the universe we know, live in, and love functions as it should. But if we were to tweak one of these constants even slightly… Especially the most important ones. If there were a slight deviation… Then… The universe as we know it wouldn't exist. It would either be a completely different place. Or not at all… In other words. 20-something constants. And what gives these constants their values? What? The force that keeps these settings constant… Sometimes we can't understand why string theory has made such a splash. But I think it's barely talked about. Or at least, it's barely understood. This might be the reason. If it weren't so complicated, everyone would be talking about it, rest assured. Because String Theory claims to explain this question, this force, and the mechanism that gives rise to these sensitive values. This is an incredible claim.
