Bust-A-Move (3DO) Playthrough

A playthrough of Panasonic's 1995 puzzle game for the 3DO, Bust-A-Move. This video shows two game modes. The 1P Play mode begins at 2:19, and the Vs. Play mode at 1:43:56. Bust-A-Move, originally released in arcades in 1994, was the first game in Taito's Puzzle Bobble series. The 3DO version was handled by Microcabin, a prolific Japanese computer game developer, and was released in North America a month after its sequel (Bust-A-Move Again) landed in arcades. The 3DO game is an enhanced port of the Super Nintendo version (   • Bust-A-Move (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoC...  ) and retains all of the extra content that was introduced there. The 1P Play mode has a hundred stages to clear, and the Vs. Play mode allows you to play head-to-head against another player or a CPU opponent. It also includes a newly arranged CD-quality soundtrack, higher quality voice samples, better looking backgrounds, and the option to save your progress whenever you lose a round. The graphics are a little sharper and more colorful than on the SNES, but the games look very similar. The only notable shortcoming is the framerate's tendency to fall apart when a ton of stuff starts flying around the screen. It's rarely an issue in the primary 1P Play mode, but you'll feel the drops in hectic Vs. game matches, and the ending cutscene is choppy enough to make me question why they didn't just scroll the credits over a pre-recorded clip. That small annoyance aside, Bust-A-Move is a good 3DO port of a great SNES adaptation of a classic arcade puzzler with a few welcome enhancements. (I wonder what Taito was thinking when they renamed the series Bust-A-Move for North America. I get that they wanted to make it sound cool, but the name Puzzle Bobble at least made sense. Bust-a-Move makes it sound like a breakdancing game.) _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
