A particle is released from rest at point A, at height h, on an inclined plane, as shown in the figure (not to scale). After descending the inclined plane, the particle moves horizontally until it reaches point B. The forces resisting the motion from A to B are negligible. From point B, the particle then falls, free from air resistance, into a well with a depth of 3h and diameter x. It collides with the bottom of the well and rises in a new parabolic trajectory until it reaches point C, the highest point of this new trajectory. In the collision with the bottom of the well, the particle loses 50% of its mechanical energy. Finally, from point C to point D, the particle moves horizontally, experiencing friction with the surface. After traveling the distance between C and D, equal to 3h, the particle comes to rest.
