Our Hardest Appalachian Trail Section Hike Yet (35 Miles With Kids Over 5 Days)
Trailblazing With Kids – Appalachian Trail Section Hike (Year 4) This year we continued our tradition of section hiking the Appalachian Trail with our kids through Pennsylvania. We hiked from the Duncannon to Swatara State Park over 5 days. In total, we covered approximately 35 miles over 4 nights on trail, making this our longest and most challenging section hike yet as a family. One of the toughest parts was a steep 10-mile day that really tested all of us physically and mentally — but also showed how much the kids are growing and adapting to these adventures. Our oldest is now carrying her own tent and water filter on trail — a big milestone in her progression as a backpacker! We don’t hike for speed — we hike for experience, resilience, and time together outdoors as a family. 📍 Appalachian Trail – Pennsylvania Section (Duncannon → Swatara State Park) 👣 ~35 miles over 5 days 🏕️ 4 nights on trail Thanks for following our journey on Trailblazing With Kids.
